I woke up inspired yesterday morning. I finally decided to use the leather I picked up months ago when I visited Philadelphia’s Fabric Row. This was my first time using real leather. I have used faux leather in the past and there’s definitely a difference in using the faux versus real leather. This particular leather I picked up was very soft and had a slight yellow color. I choose it because of that. The underside of the the leather was actually a mustard yellow color and it shown through the outer leather. I chose a cute floral print for the lining and threw a clutch together yesterday afternoon. It was a little difficult, because the leather had a slight “stretch” to it. I had to be careful with matching edges up because you can’t use pins with leather. With 2 hours of careful marking, and sewing I am satisfied with the end results.
I also was inspired to make a round bottom tote with a removable strap that can be worn as a shoulder bag or cross body. This one doesn’t feature an adjustable strap because I cut the strap the perfect length to wear both ways. It also has 2 cotton webbing straps if you’re the type to carry your bag in your hand. The bag also features to outer slip pockets and 2 inner slip pockets and a snap closure. Ever since my daughter seen it she’s been bugging me to make her one for school… hmmm… maybe I’ll surprise her with one before school starts.
