A New Year, New Resolutions

Happy New Year!

Most of you have noticed that I have been very quiet last month.  Well I have been working on keeping my health (both physical and mental) in check.  Last month I challenged myself in three different areas.

Challenge #1 was an eating clean/get more energy challenge.  This challenge involved cleaning out the system and filling it back with good nutrition.  I am happy to say that I have stayed on track for the most part.  I have been shopping on the outer perimeter of the grocery stores.  I have put more fresh produce in my diet and gave up some of those bad (but oh so good) carbs. I’ve also increased my water intake.  The extra water has helped me to not eat as much.  It was a long, difficult month, but I made it through happy, healthy and energized.

Challenge #2 was a fitness challenge.  I found this Beach Body Workout challenge on-line.  I started out strong and I did each exercise faithfully for about 14 days.  Once I started working and getting busy with other things, the challenge was more of a challenge, because I needed to find time to do it.  Even though I have fallen behind, I am still working towards completing it, even if it takes more than 30 days.

Challenge #3 was my mental challenge.  A blog I follow posted about a 21 day doodle challenge.  Everyday for 21 days she posted on Instagram a doodle or idea prompt.   The goal for everyone was to spend at least 10 minutes capturing creative thoughts together.  I stepped up to the plate and took a swing at it.  The first couple of days was hard.  Not because I had to doodle, but because I posted each day and started watching artists who I felt were more talented than I post.  After a few days of watching I gave up.  After not doodling for a couple of days, I ended up going back to it, but not posting to social media.  If I didn’t post, I wouldn’t have the temptation to look and feel discouraged.  I am happy that I completed that challenge.  It gave me some time to just clear my mind.  I didn’t have to worry about whether or not I was good enough, just that I did something creative.

Have you made and stuck with your resolutions this year?  I’d love to hear about them and how you stayed on track?
